The Visual Comfort Whitman Desk Lamp, designed by Thomas O'Brien, addresses both. Its three-tiered shade arrangement — a large shallow dome above two progressively smaller cylindrical shades — is engineered to direct light downward while keeping the bulb fully out of view. The result is soft, layered illumination without glare. A rotary switch integrated into the stem gives straightforward on-desk control. The lamp carries an IP20 rating, appropriate for standard interior dry environments.

The aesthetic is built on contrast: warm Hand-Rubbed Antique Brass metalwork on the circular base, slender stem, and finial sits against clean opal white shades. The Whitman is a lamped fixture — lamps are not included and should be specified separately to suit your preferred colour temperature and dimming setup. As an IP20-rated product, it is suitable for dry interior locations only; it is not appropriate for bathroom zones or outdoor use.
