Which service fits your project?

The right starting point depends on where your project is today. Pick the option that matches your stage, whether that is a new build, a renovation, a garden or one quick expert question.

Inside your design pack

Your brief, plans and ideas become a set of documents you can build from.

What is included depends on the service you choose: a consultation, a marked-up layout, a product schedule, calculations, 3D visuals, a quotation and a revision round. Each service page sets out its exact scope.

  • Consultation

    Lighting design consultation

We go through your plans and goals together and settle on the lighting approach.

  • Lighting layout

    Marked-up lighting layout plan

Your architectural plan marked up with fitting positions, lighting types and design notes.

  • Light-level calculations

    Lighting calculations

Calculations wherever the space needs them for function, comfort or regulations.

  • Schedule and quotation

    Lighting schedule and quotation

Every specified fitting listed with quantities and key details, plus a quote for the recommended products.

  • 3D visuals

    3D lighting render

Simple renders of the lighting effect when they help you picture the result.

  • Review and revision

    Design review and revision

A review meeting, then one round of agreed changes from your combined feedback.

Lighting mistakes we help you avoid

Most lighting problems are cheap to fix on paper and expensive to fix on site. A design settles placement, products, controls and coordination early.

  • Lights in the wrong place

Fittings placed where they are easy to wire, rather than where they light the room, leave glare, shadows, dark corners and messy ceilings. We position each one around the furniture and the way the space is used.

  • A ceiling full of downlights

Grids of downlights tend to make rooms feel flat and over-lit. Layering ambient, task, accent and decorative light gives a space depth, comfort and character.

  • Products that disappoint

What looks perfect in a photo can let you down once installed. Output, beam, colour temperature, dimming, IP rating and trim all shape the result, so we specify for your room and your intent.

  • Awkward switching

Badly planned circuits, dimmers and scenes make even good lighting frustrating. We decide how each area should be controlled before anything is installed.

  • Changes after cabling

Late decisions often mean extra electrical work, compromised positions and rushed product choices. Planning early protects the layout, the budget and the build programme.

  • Vague instructions on site

A great idea falls apart if nobody documents it. You get a layout, schedule and quotation that your electrician or builder can actually work from.

💡 Decide on lighting before the cables go in

The ideal moment to design lighting is before the electrician starts.

Once cables are pulled and ceilings closed, moving a fitting becomes disruptive and costly. Designing early lets us get the layout, layers and controls right first time.

Questions we are often asked

What does a lighting design service involve?

We create a lighting plan tailored to your space: where fittings go, how light is layered, which products to use, how it is controlled, and the documents needed to build it.

Who uses these services?

Private clients, interior designers, architects, builders and businesses working on homes, gardens, shops, restaurants, hotels and other commercial spaces.

What is not included?

Electrical work stays with your electrician, electrical contractor or engineer. Our role is the lighting layout, product specification and design advice; cabling, fitting, certification and meeting local regulations are down to your installer.

Will you need architectural drawings?

They help a lot and we recommend them. Without plans we can sometimes work from sketches, notes and photos, though preparing a plan may be charged separately.

Must I buy the lighting from you?

Not at all. You can source fittings wherever you like; the design-fee credit only applies to lighting bought through us.

My light points are already fixed. Can you still help?

Yes. Choose the Light Fitting Selection Service, built for projects where the electrical layout is settled and you need help picking fittings.

Do you install lighting?

No. Our part is the design, the specification and the quote. Fitting the lights is done by your own electrician, builder or contractor.

How long does a design take?

It depends on size and complexity, but most designs take about 1 to 3 weeks from consultation to final pack.

Are revisions included?

Yes, one combined round of revisions after the first design. More rounds, late changes or updated architectural plans can be charged at the hourly rate.

Do you design outdoor lighting?

Yes: gardens, terraces, façades, paths, patios, driveways, pools and outdoor living areas. Choose the Garden & Outdoor Lighting Design Service.
