One of the most common missteps with a linear pendant is choosing a fixture that looks right in isolation but sits awkwardly above the table — either too short, too long, or hung at the wrong height. A piece this architectural demands a considered approach to proportion and placement before you commit.

For elongated fixtures over dining tables or kitchen islands, the general rule is to keep the pendant no longer than two-thirds the length of the surface below, and to hang it low enough to define the space without blocking sightlines. If your surface runs particularly long, a pair of linear pendants is often the stronger specification choice.

The Visual Comfort Utopia Large Linear Pendant is designed by Kelly Wearstler and draws its form from the topographic textures of the Californian coastline. The result is a long, slim profile — 151.8cm across — with a carved, striated metal exterior that reads as sculptural from every angle, while a white translucent diffuser on the underside softens the six E27 light sources into a broad, even wash of light across the surface below. The fixture carries an IP20 rating, making it suitable for dry interior spaces such as dining rooms and kitchen areas away from water zones.

Two finish options give specifiers room to work with contrasting or complementary interior palettes: Aged Iron and Gild. Both carry that same tension between rugged, tactile surface texture and clean architectural lines that defines the Utopia range. The rectangular ceiling canopy (10.2cm x 91.4cm) and twin suspension rods are finished to match, keeping the overall composition cohesive from ceiling to shade.

The pendant is suspended by two slender downrods with central joints that allow height adjustment at installation. Overall height is 80.1cm, with a minimum custom height of 33.7cm and a fixture height of 19cm. The shade width is 15.88cm. Six E27 keyless sockets accept up to 15W LED A lamps each — lamps are not included and should be specified separately. The fixture weighs 15.4kg, so ceiling structure and fixing points should be confirmed prior to installation. IP20 Class I rating applies.
