Flanking a bathroom mirror or anchoring a hallway wall sounds simple — until you realise the fitting you chose is too deep for your backbox, the finish clashes with your hardware, or the IP rating doesn't hold up in a wet zone. Specifying a decorative wall sconce well means thinking beyond aesthetics before it goes on the wall.

For wall sconces used near mirrors and in bathrooms, three things matter most: mounting depth and backplate size (your wall cavity needs to match), IP rating relative to the intended zone, and the lamp socket type — which determines your dimming and bulb options down the line. The Precision sconce uses E27 keyless sockets, meaning you choose the bulb and retain control over colour temperature and dimmability based on your wider system.

The Visual Comfort Precision Cylinder Sconce, designed by Kelly Wearstler, is a dual-E27 decorative wall sconce that belongs to the Precision series — defined by bold architectural lines and a signature perforated metal guard that wraps one side of a smooth white glass cylinder. That contrast between industrial texture and soft diffusion is the design's whole point: light escapes through both the glass and the perforations, casting delicate patterned reflections onto surrounding surfaces. The fixture is IP20 rated, meaning it is suitable for dry interior spaces and covered bathroom zones away from direct water exposure. For use in a closer bathroom zone, an IP44-rated version (splash-protected) is available on request at an additional cost.

The rectangular backplate measures 10.2 cm × 27.9 cm — clean-edged and architectural in proportion, designed to sit neatly on the wall without fuss. The cylindrical shade extends 10.2 cm from the wall and stands 35.6 cm tall, making it well-proportioned for flanking a mirror or standing alone as a hallway accent. Three finish options are available: Polished Nickel, Antique-Burnished Brass, and Bronze — each shifting the fixture's character from crisp and contemporary to warm and considered.

This fitting requires a smaller outlet box (shallower than a standard backbox) — worth confirming with your electrician before first fix. It accommodates two E27 lamps rated up to 25W each (lamp type and dimming compatibility will depend on your chosen bulb and dimmer; we can advise). The fixture is Class I, meaning it requires an earth connection. Weight is 1.8 kg — standard wall fixings are appropriate, but confirm with your installer on hollow or tiled walls. IP44 upgrade is available on request if your zone requires splash protection.
