Getting artwork lighting wrong is surprisingly easy. Mount a light too close to the wall, choose the wrong size for the frame, or pick a finish that competes with the piece â€” and the art suffers. A picture light should disappear into the scheme and let the work do the talking.

Picture lights work by extending a light source away from the wall on a fixed arm, then angling the head downward to cast even, directional light across the surface of the artwork. Visual Comfort offer the Petrel in Small, Medium, Large, and Extra-Large. As a general guide, the head length should be roughly half to two-thirds the width of the frame. We can help you confirm the right size before you order â€” it's the most important decision with any picture light.

Is the Petrel suitable for bathrooms or outdoor use?

No. The Petrel is rated IP20, which means it is designed for dry interior environments only. IP20 fixtures are not suitable for bathrooms, covered terraces, or any space where moisture or condensation is present.

What finishes are available?
