STORY
STORY
Decorative wall lights are one of those details where the silhouette does most of the work — but choosing the wrong scale or position can throw off an entire room. An articulating design adds another decision layer: how much reach, how much drama, and does it actually direct light where you need it?
Articulating wall lights use a pivoting arm mechanism to allow horizontal repositioning of the shade, giving you directional control without a fixed beam angle. For accent lighting in hallways, living rooms, or bedside settings, this flexibility means the light works harder than a static sconce. The shade material matters too: a fabric or parchment empire shade diffuses the source softly, casting warm ambient light downward rather than a harsh point of brightness.
The Visual Comfort Kinsley Large Articulating Wall Light is designed by Kate Spade and carries that hallmark of considered American design: strong silhouette, refined finish, liveable function. The dramatic high-radius gooseneck arm sweeps up and over in a full arc, suspending a tapered empire-style shade at a downward-facing angle. The contrast between the slender oval backplate and the generous conical shade is the defining tension of the piece — architectural without being cold.
The fixture is available in two finishes: Polished Nickel and Soft Brass. Both finishes carry through to the arm and backplate, maintaining a cohesive material story whether you're working with cool contemporary interiors or warmer, more layered schemes.
The Kinsley is hardwired and requires wall installation via its mounting backplate. It is designed for a single bulb — an LED option is available separately. No driver is required; this is a standard lamped fitting. For hallway or living space placement, Visual Comfort recommends a minimum spacing of 8–10 feet between sconces for balanced light distribution. ETL Listed for North American electrical standards; confirm local compliance requirements for Spanish installations with your electrician.
At Lightsource Studio, we help you get decisions like this right before anything is ordered or fixed to the wall. The Kinsley is the kind of piece that rewards careful placement — and we can help you work through scale, spacing, and finish choice as part of your broader scheme, so the specification reflects the design intent from day one.
