Visual Comfort Darlana Pendant Lantern

Choosing a pendant lantern for a dining room or kitchen island is rarely as simple as it looks. Get the scale wrong and the room feels either cluttered or underwhelming — and with decorative pieces like this, the finish and silhouette have to earn their place in the overall scheme.

What makes an open-frame lantern work is the balance between visual presence and visual lightness. Without glass panels, the frame reads as a sculptural object rather than a solid mass, allowing the surrounding space to breathe. The four internal candelabra light sources — E14 sockets, the smaller screw-base format used for decorative candle-style bulbs — distribute a warm, ambient glow through the open structure rather than concentrating it in one point.

The Visual Comfort Darlana Pendant Lantern is a Chapman & Myers design from Visual Comfort's Signature Collection. It features a square open-frame cage in slim metal with hand-applied living finishes, housing four upward-facing E14 candelabra sockets on short horizontal arms from a central stem. At 45.8 cm tall and 31.8 cm wide, it carries presence without overpowering a standard ceiling height. IP20 rated, it is suitable for dry interior locations.

The Darlana's design sits at the intersection of traditional lantern geometry and a clean, contemporary metal profile — a combination that makes it versatile across transitional and modern interiors. It is available in three hand-applied finishes: Aged Iron, Gilded Iron, and Polished Nickel, each lending a distinct character, from raw industrial warmth to refined metallic polish.

The pendant is suspended via a metal chain from a 14 cm round ceiling canopy, with approximately 6 feet of chain length that can be adjusted at installation to suit ceiling height. Four E14 candelabra sockets support up to 60W per socket (bulb type B). Lamps are not included. The fixture is IP20 rated — suitable for dry interior use only, not for bathroom zones or outdoor locations despite the lantern aesthetic. Total weight is 3.6 kg; ensure the ceiling fixing point is rated accordingly.
