For a fixture like the Catena, the two decisions that shape the mood most are colour temperature and finish. Colour temperature — measured in Kelvin — determines whether the light reads warm and intimate (2700K) or clean and contemporary (3000K). CRI, or Colour Rendering Index, tells you how accurately the light reveals material colours: at 90, the Catena renders finishes, fabrics, and surfaces with genuine fidelity.

The Visual Comfort Catena Chandelier is a modular, articulated ceiling light designed by Sean Lavin. Its linked metal segments drape in a catenary curve — suspended from two ceiling mounting points to span a space rather than hang from a single centre point. Integrated LEDs within each frosted diffuser segment deliver ambient light across the full length of the fixture. With an IP20 rating, it is suited to dry interior environments. CRI 90 ensures the materials and finishes in the room around it are seen at their best.

The Catena's design language references the form of a draped chain or necklace — precise, industrial, and organic at the same time. Hinged joints between every segment allow the fixture to be configured in a gentle curve or a more pronounced drape depending on ceiling height and spatial proportion. It is available in Bronze, Hand-Rubbed Antique Brass, or Polished Nickel, and in colour temperatures of 2700K or 3000K — allowing the finish and the light character to be aligned to the wider scheme.

The Catena is rated IP20, meaning it is designed for dry interior use only — not suitable for bathrooms or covered outdoor spaces.
