Visual Comfort Asalea Double Wall Sconce

Lighting a bathroom mirror well is harder than it looks. Too high and you get unflattering shadows from above; too low and the fixture sits awkwardly against the tile. Getting the mounting position right — and choosing a fitting that throws light where it actually counts — makes all the difference.

For mirror and vanity lighting, a double sconce works by spreading illumination from two sources across the face rather than casting a single pool from one point. The orientation of the shades and the quality of the glass determine how that light lands — whether it feels clinical or considered. Clear glass allows the light source to remain visible, which adds decorative character while keeping the output bright and direct.

The Visual Comfort Asalea Double Wall Sconce, designed by Aerin Lauder, addresses this precisely. Two downward-facing fluted clear glass shades — bell-shaped with vertical ribbing that refracts and distributes light with a rhythmic, textured quality — are mounted at either end of a clean rectangular arm extending from a circular backplate. The result is balanced illumination from two distinct sources, with a fitting that earns its place on the wall as much for its presence as its performance.

The Asalea carries Aerin Lauder's signature restraint: the contrast between the circular backplate and the linear arm is deliberate, and the tiered cylindrical socket covers above each shade add a considered finishing detail. The range is available in Polished Nickel and Hand-Rubbed Antique Brass, giving it range across cooler contemporary schemes and warmer, more layered interiors alike.

The Asalea Double Sconce is rated IP20, making it suitable for bathroom zones away from direct water exposure (Zone 2 and beyond) and for use in hallways, dressing rooms, and bedroom walls. It is designed for indoor use. Visual Comfort recommend mounting the backplate centre at approximately 60–65 inches from the floor when flanking a mirror. Lamp type and driver requirements should be confirmed at point of specification; lamps are not included.
