For decorative sconces of this type, the key decisions are finish pairing, light quality, and zone suitability. IP20 is the standard interior rating — meaning the fitting is protected against solid objects over 12mm but not water ingress, so it is appropriate for zones outside splash areas in bathrooms (Zone 2 and beyond). The Visual Comfort Asalea Wall Sconce by AERIN reinterprets mid-century French design with a contemporary eye. Designed by Aerin Lauder for Visual Comfort's Signature Collection, the Asalea sconce pairs an elongated fluted upper cylinder with a shorter cup-shaped lower shade — both in clear ribbed glass — connected by a brass band that acts as the structural centrepiece. Light emanates from both top and bottom, producing a layered, ambient effect well suited to hallways, living rooms, and bathroom walls outside wet zones.

The Asalea is available in two hand-applied finishes: Hand-Rubbed Antique Brass and Polished Nickel. Both reflect Visual Comfort's commitment to living finishes — developed to deepen and evolve with use rather than remain static. The distinctive asymmetrical silhouette means it reads as a design object even when unlit.

The Asalea sconce is rated IP20 and intended for interior use only; it should not be installed within wet zones of a bathroom (Zone 0 or Zone 1). The fitting mounts via a circular backplate onto a standard flush wall surface. Candle-style lamps are visible through the transparent ribbed glass, so lamp choice will affect the overall character of the light — warm filament-style sources are well suited to the aesthetic. Lamp type, driver requirements, and included components should be confirmed at point of order. Visual Comfort carries a one-year product warranty.
