Table lamps often look straightforward until you realise the base and shade need to work as a unified lighting composition — not just independently. Choosing a lamp where the two light sources feel disconnected, or where the switching is awkward, undermines the whole effect.

For ambient and decorative table lighting, the relationship between diffused shade light and direct decorative glow matters. A lamp that can operate each source independently gives you control over atmosphere — whether you want warmth from above, a sculptural glow from below, or both together.

The Quintiesse Sola Table Lamp addresses this directly. Part of Quintiesse's Sola range, it features a large hand-blown clear glass base with a raised diamond-patterned texture that refracts light beautifully when the internal GX53 source is active. A 4-way twist switch, integrated into the polished silver-toned metal collar, lets you select the shade light, the base light, both together, or off — no secondary cord switch, no visual clutter.

The drum shade is handmade in the UK in a faux silk fabric with a white internal lining, which softens and distributes the upper light source evenly. It uses a harp-and-finial mounting system for secure, well-proportioned attachment. The shade is available in two colours: Breton (a muted blue) and Titanium (a sophisticated silver-tone).

The GX53 lamp for the glass base is supplied with the fitting. The GX53 is a compact disc-shaped lamp with a twist-and-lock fitting — a common format for integrated base illumination. No additional driver is required. The wide, rounded glass base provides a naturally low centre of gravity, making it stable on side tables, console surfaces, or bedside positions.
