Here, the shade is handbraided from cord made of recycled plastic bottles — a process that creates the kind of rhythmic, tactile texture that no injection-moulded fitting can replicate. Light bleeds gently through the gaps between strands, producing a soft, diffused ambience rather than a harsh point-source effect. Some models also include a matt opal PMMA diffuser — PMMA being a clear, lightweight acrylic — which further softens the output through the base aperture.

The Ole Lighting Drum Ceiling Light sits within Ole Lighting's broader Drum collection, a sustainable range drawing inspiration from ethnic instruments and textile craft. The tapered, frustum form — wider at the base than the top — is carried by an internal metal frame, giving the shade its precise geometry while the braided exterior delivers the artisanal detail. The result is a fixture that fits comfortably across bohemian, coastal, and contemporary interiors.

The Drum is available in three sizes — Small (Ø50 cm), Medium (Ø60 cm), and Large (Ø80 cm) — and in fourteen colours: Mustard, Stone, White, Blue, Beige, Olive, Silver, Dark Green, Grey, Terracotta, Mocha, Black, Maroon, and Cognac. That range of colour options makes it genuinely useful for scheme coordination, whether you are working across a single room or an entire project.

The fitting is surface-mounted and takes 3 × E27 LED bulbs, sold separately. E27 is the standard large screw cap — the most widely available lamp base, which keeps replacement straightforward. No driver is required; just choose your preferred E27 LED and fit. A 3-year warranty is included as standard.
