One of the most common pendant mistakes over a dining table or kitchen island is choosing a single large shade that floods the space with flat, undifferentiated light. The result feels functional but rarely atmospheric — and once it's installed, it's not easy to change.

The more considered approach is layering: combining diffused ambient light with focused directional light in a single fixture. Ambient light (spread, soft, from all angles) creates warmth and atmosphere; directional light (targeted, downward) adds clarity and contrast. Getting both from one pendant simplifies installation considerably.

The Lucide Josiane Pendant Light does exactly that. Five individual elements hang from a slim rectangular matte black canopy — three spherical amber-tinted glass globes for diffused ambient light, alternating with two slim matte black cylindrical downlights that direct light straight down onto the surface below. The globes connect via elongated brushed brass collars, giving the fixture a sophisticated three-tone palette: matte black, brushed brass, and warm tinted glass. Each globe takes a G9 lamp (up to 40W, dimmable), making light control straightforward with a compatible G9 dimmer circuit.

The arrangement is symmetrical and linear — globe, cylinder, globe, cylinder, globe — with cables staggered in length to place the downlights slightly lower than the globe collars, adding visual depth and reinforcing the layered effect. At 18 cm wide and 160 cm in total height with a height-adjustable cord, it can be set at the right level for the space without guesswork.

Rated IP20, the Josiane is intended for dry interior zones — living rooms, dining areas, bedrooms, and hallways.
