Outdoor lighting that looks good in a brochure but causes headaches on site is a frustratingly common problem. The usual culprits: an IP rating that isn't suited to the exposure level, a fitting that needs a separate sensor wired in elsewhere, or a lamp choice that kills the visual effect you were after. Getting all three right in one fixture takes more effort than it should.

For exterior wall lighting in sheltered or semi-exposed positions — a terrace wall, an entrance, a garden façade — IP54 is the practical benchmark. It means the fixture is protected against dust ingress and water splashing from any direction (IP stands for Ingress Protection; the 5 indicates dust resistance, the 4 indicates splash resistance). Combine that with an integrated PIR motion sensor and a day/night sensor, and you have a fixture that handles its own switching logic without requiring additional control hardware.

The Lucide Claire Outdoor Wall Light is a lantern-style sconce that takes exactly this approach. Constructed from aluminium with clear glass panels on three sides and the top, it disperses light in all directions and makes the most of a decorative filament-style E27 lamp. The integrated sensor — a circular component mounted on the backplate — handles both motion detection and ambient light levels, so the light activates when it's needed and stands down when it isn't. IP54 rated, it's well suited to sheltered outdoor positions including terraces, entrance areas, and perimeter walls.

The Claire's frame pairs modern rectangular geometry with a classic lantern silhouette — a combination that sits comfortably against both contemporary render finishes and more traditional stonework. It is available in Anthracite or White, allowing it to either recede into a dark exterior or stand as a deliberate accent against lighter surfaces.

The fixture accepts a single E27 lamp (standard screw cap, max. 15 W) — the bulb is not included, giving you control over the light output and colour temperature. An LED filament-style E27 is the natural choice here: the visible spiral filament reads beautifully through the clear glass and keeps energy consumption low. Dimming is dependent on the lamp chosen. The fixture includes installation materials and is supplied with a 2-year warranty. It is not height adjustable.
