Scale, colour temperature, and how light passes through the diffuser all shape the final result. Getting these details right before ordering saves costly changes on site.

With a sphere pendant, the diffuser material is everything. Blown glass shapes the quality of light from within: clear glass reveals the source and creates brilliance; frosted glass softens output and delivers an even, glowing ambience across the surface. Colour temperature — the warmth or coolness of white light, measured in Kelvin — also affects mood significantly. 2700K reads warm and intimate; 3000K is slightly crisper and more neutral, better suited to contemporary interiors or task-adjacent spaces.

The Lodes Random Solo Pendant is a blown glass sphere pendant designed by Chia-Ying Lee in 2020, part of the wider Random range by Italian manufacturer Lodes. Available in the Solo 18 (180mm diameter), it houses an integrated LED light source delivering 3W at CRI 90 — a colour rendering index score that ensures colours read accurately and naturally under the light — and is offered at either 2700K or 3000K. With a MacAdam 3-Step binning tolerance, colour consistency is tightly controlled, which matters when hanging multiple pendants together. The luminaire carries an IP20 rating, suitable for dry interior spaces.

The design is defined by total simplicity: a seamless, perfectly spherical diffuser suspended on a single slender cable with no visible hardware or external ornamentation. The focus remains entirely on the pure geometric form. It works as a singular accent piece or grouped in clusters of varying sizes for a composed, floating effect — the kind of installation that photographs well and reads even better in person. The pendant is available in Clear, Frosted White, Glossy Smoke, and Glossy Bronze, each lending a distinctly different character to the same form.

The LED light source is integrated within the luminaire. Please note that the canopy is sold separately — this is worth factoring into your specification and budget from the outset, particularly when planning cluster installations where a multi-pendant canopy may be required. Rated IP20, this fitting is intended for dry interior use only. No external driver or transformer is required for the integrated LED module.
