Choosing a statement pendant for a high-impact space is exciting right up until the moment you realise the light source is visible from every angle, the scale is wrong, or the finish clashes with everything else in the room. Getting all three right at once is harder than it looks.

For large decorative pendants, the key decisions are scale, light distribution, and how the fitting handles glare. A concealed diffuser hides the lamp while softening the output — the shade geometry then determines how and where light travels. Laser-cut openwork panels allow light to escape laterally and downward through the pattern, casting decorative shadow projections onto surrounding surfaces without exposing the source directly.

The Lodes Kelly Pendant, designed by Andrea Tosetto for the Italian brand Lodes, is built around exactly this principle. The hemispherical dome shade divides into a solid upper half — which directs light downward — and an intricate lower lattice of organic, branch-like cutouts that casts layered light and shadow across walls and ceilings. An inner glass diffuser conceals the light source entirely, keeping the visual drama in the pattern rather than the bulb. The Kelly is rated IP20, making it suitable for dry interior locations including living rooms, dining areas, entrance halls, and hospitality spaces.

The design contrasts geometric restraint at the top with organic complexity below — the irregular, web-like perforations give a large and weighty form an unexpected visual lightness. The shade is suspended on three slim tension cables and a central cord, so the fitting appears to float despite its scale. Kelly is available in Matt Champagne and White finishes, and across multiple sizes to suit different ceiling heights and room proportions.

Kelly is an IP20-rated pendant for dry interior use. Lamp and driver requirements should be confirmed at the specification stage — Lodes' technical documentation will define the correct light source type and any external driver or transformer needed for the chosen size variant. Suspension height adjustment should be considered during install planning given the scale of the shade.
