Floor lamps that feel too bulky, too rigid, or simply wrong for the space are a common frustration in residential and hospitality projects. When you need directional accent or task lighting without committing precious floor area to a heavy base and rigid pole, the options can feel surprisingly limited.

Tension-cable lamp systems solve this neatly. The lamp is anchored between floor and ceiling by a taut vertical cable — held straight by gravity via a weighted base rather than a rigid structure. The light head slides and tilts along the cable, so height and direction can be adjusted without tools. The result is a minimal footprint, a clean architectural line, and genuine flexibility in use.

The Lodes Cima Floor Lamp is built precisely on this principle. Inspired by the jam cleats of sailing boats — cima is Italian for nautical rope — a braided rope runs floor-to-ceiling, tensioned by a solid cylindrical counterweight base. A matte black cylindrical spotlight head slides vertically along the rope and can be tilted to direct light exactly where it is needed. Excess rope is managed by the counterweight, keeping the line clean at any adjusted height. Rated IP20, it is suited to dry interior environments.

Design intent here is the balance between restrained industrial form and warm material accent. The cylindrical spotlight head and base are finished in matte black; the rope itself is the expressive element, available in Silver, Gold, or Yellow — vibrant colour accents that shift the mood from cooler and contemporary to warmer and characterful depending on the interior palette.

As a tension lamp, the Cima requires a floor-to-ceiling installation — the cable is fixed at the top via a ceiling hook and eyelet and tensioned by the weighted base at floor level. Confirm ceiling height compatibility and ensure the ceiling fixing point is structurally adequate to support the cable tension. The lamp is rated IP20, meaning it is intended for standard dry interior use only.
