Outdoor lighting near water features is one of those areas where a small oversight can become a costly problem. Running a cable into a pond or across a persistently wet area without a properly rated connection point risks moisture ingress, electrical failure, and — at worst — a damaged lighting installation that needs pulling apart to fix.
The key is ensuring that any cable join or extension point is genuinely waterproof at depth, not just splash-resistant. IP68 is the rating that matters here — it means the connection is protected against continuous immersion in water, not just rain or surface moisture. A standard cable connector exposed to pond water will eventually fail; a properly sealed, gel-filled housing will not.
The In-Lite WATERLOCK is a dedicated waterproof connector housing designed specifically for use with in-lite mini-connector cables — the short links between an in-lite fixture and its Easy-Lock connection point or extension cord. Place the mini-connector inside the WATERLOCK, close the two-part clamshell housing using its snap-lock latches, and the connection is sealed. The internal gel fill does the work, creating a 100% waterproof enclosure rated to IP68. It also serves as a practical repair solution for damaged fixture cables in the garden.
The WATERLOCK has a compact, capsule-shaped body in matte black UV-resistant plastic — discreet enough to sit in a planting bed or submerged in a pond without drawing attention. The branding is moulded directly into the casing, so identification remains clear even after years outdoors. Installation requires no tools; the clamshell design simply clicks shut once the connector is seated correctly. Note that the plastic protective film covering the internal gel must be removed before use.
One important compatibility note: the WATERLOCK is designed for use with in-lite mini-connector cables only. It cannot be used to repair or extend in-lite main cables (14/2 or 10/2 specification). If you are unsure which cable type you are working with, this is worth confirming before ordering — and it is exactly the kind of question we are here to help with.
At Lightsource Mallorca, we support full in-lite system specification — from fixtures and drivers through to accessories like this one. Getting the connection detail right in a water feature is rarely glamorous, but it is the difference between a lighting installation that lasts and one that lets you down mid-season. We can help you specify the right components at the right stage of your project, so nothing gets missed.
