Lighting a facade or garden wall sounds straightforward until you're standing in front of a glaring fitting that floods the neighbours' windows and leaves the architecture invisible. Getting the beam right — contained, directional, and glare-free — is the real challenge with exterior wall lighting.

For architectural wall lighting, what matters most is beam control and light source placement. When the source is recessed deep within the body, glare is eliminated and light is directed exactly where it needs to go — up and down along the surface. IP55 is the relevant ingress protection rating here: it means the fitting is protected against dust and low-pressure water jets from any direction, making it suitable for exposed exterior positions on facades, garden walls, garages, and outbuildings.

The In-Lite Ace Up-Down Outdoor Wall Light is a mains-connected exterior wall luminaire from Dutch brand In-Lite, designed specifically for facade and wall mounting. It delivers a focused dual-direction beam — upward and downward — with light sources positioned deep inside the body to eliminate glare entirely. With a CRI of 92 (Colour Rendering Index: a measure of how accurately a light source renders colours, where 100 is perfect daylight), materials and surfaces are rendered with genuine fidelity. It connects directly to a 230V mains supply and is not compatible with In-Lite's HUB or SMART HUB low-voltage transformer systems.

The Ace Up-Down has a highly minimalist rectangular form with a flat front face, flush wall-mount profile, and no visible fixings on the primary surface — a clean, considered aesthetic that suits contemporary and transitional architecture equally well. It is available in four finishes: Dark Grey, White, Rosé Silver, and Corten, allowing it to complement a wide range of facade materials and colour palettes.

Beam width can be adjusted using the separately available SHUTTER 2 accessory, giving you control over how focused or spread the up and down beams appear. The fitting requires a direct mains connection at 100–230V and installation by a qualified electrician. IP55 confirms its suitability for exterior use in exposed positions. An extension cord is recommended where direct wiring access is limited.
