Elstead Venetian Rain Chain Lantern

Choosing an outdoor pendant lantern involves more than picking a style you love — get the weather rating wrong and you are facing premature corrosion or, worse, a safety issue. It is one of the most common specification oversights in exterior lighting, particularly in covered porch and entryway installations.

For suspended outdoor fixtures, the IP rating tells you how well the product resists moisture. IP23 indicates protection against dripping water and light sprayed water up to 60 degrees from vertical — making it well suited to covered exterior locations such as porches, verandas, and sheltered entranceways, where it will not face direct rainfall. It is not designed for fully exposed positions.

The Elstead Venetian Rain Chain Lantern is a ceiling-suspended outdoor lantern from Elstead's Venetian Rain collection, inspired by the decorative traditions of Renaissance-era Italian craftsmanship. The fixture carries an IP23 rating and accommodates two candelabra-style lamp sockets within a classically proportioned lantern body. It is suspended via a metal link chain and offers an adjustable drop range of 700mm to 1900mm, giving you meaningful flexibility at installation.

The lantern's tapered urn-shaped frame is finished in Brushed Bronze — dark bronze tones with subtle metallic warmth — and is dressed with ornate beaded banding, a tiered scalloped top cap, and pointed finials at both the crown and base. Clear vertically ribbed glass panels enclose the lamp cluster, casting a distinctive diffused light pattern that adds character to the illumination rather than simply transmitting it. The overall aesthetic is lavish without being excessive — a confident design statement for heritage-style and traditional exterior schemes.

The fixture measures 629mm in height with a diameter of 184mm, and the chain allows an adjustable drop between 700mm and 1900mm. Two candelabra lamp sockets are fitted internally; lamps are not included, so you will need to select appropriate candelabra-base bulbs to suit your preferred colour temperature and output. Elstead products typically carry a warranty of 2 to 20 years depending on the model — confirm the applicable term at point of specification.
