One of the most common specification slip-ups with semi-flush ceiling lights is overlooking the lamp choice — and with a clear glass shade, there's nowhere to hide. The bulb you choose becomes part of the design, so getting it right matters from the outset.

Semi-flush fittings like this sit slightly below the ceiling surface, making them ideal where a full pendant would be too low but a flat flush mount would feel flat. Because the glass is clear, light radiates in all directions — upward, downward, and sideways — creating an ambient fill rather than a directional pool. This also means the lamp itself is always visible, so a filament-style or decorative E27 bulb is typically the right specification choice. E27 is the standard large Edison screw fitting used across most domestic and hospitality lamps.

The Elstead Penn Station Semi-Flush Ceiling Light brings an industrial-transitional character to overhead lighting. An inverted clear glass bowl is suspended from a brushed nickel or western bronze canopy via three curved metal support straps, secured at the rim with decorative thumbscrews. The result is a fitting that reads as considered and robust — comfortable in both classic and contemporary industrial interiors. Elstead is a UK heritage brand with a strong track record in specification-grade decorative lighting.

The Penn Station is available in two finishes: Brushed Nickel (a matte silver tone) and Western Bronze (a darker, warmer patina). Both pair well with the clear glass and suit a range of interior palettes from neutral contemporary to warm industrial.

This is a single-lamp E27 fitting with a maximum lamp wattage of 60W. No bulb is included, giving you full freedom to choose a lamp that suits the aesthetic and your preferred light output. It is a hardwired ceiling fitting for interior use only — no IP rating is specified, so it is not suitable for bathrooms or outdoor spaces. Ensure your chosen E27 lamp is within the 60W maximum to avoid overheating.

At Lightsource Mallorca, we help you close the gap between design intent and installation reality. The Penn Station is the kind of fitting that looks considered without demanding a complex specification — straightforward to install, with the lamp choice being the only real decision left to make. We can advise on compatible E27 bulb options to complete the specification and ensure the result matches your vision.

FAQs

Is a bulb included with the Penn Station semi-flush?

No, the Penn Station is supplied without a bulb. It uses a single E27 lamp — the standard large Edison screw fitting — with a maximum wattage of 60W. A decorative filament-style bulb typically works best given the clear glass shade.

What finishes are available?

The Penn Station semi-flush is available in two finishes: Brushed Nickel (a matte silver tone) and Western Bronze (a darker, warmer patina with a traditional character).

Can this fitting be used in a bathroom?

No. The Penn Station does not carry an IP rating, which means it has not been rated for use in wet or damp environments. It is suitable for interior dry rooms only — living rooms, hallways, bedrooms, and dining areas.

How does a semi-flush differ from a flush mount or pendant?

A semi-flush fitting sits slightly below the ceiling surface — lower than a flat flush mount but higher than a pendant. It's a good solution for rooms with modest ceiling heights where a hanging pendant would feel too low, but a flat fitting would lack visual presence.

Is the Penn Station dimmable?

Dimmability depends on the E27 lamp you choose rather than the fitting itself. If you want a dimmable result, select a dimmable E27 lamp and pair it with a compatible dimmer switch. We can advise on suitable lamp and dimmer combinations for your project.
