Elstead Malibu Bathroom Wall Light

Choosing a bathroom wall light sounds simple until you realise how many get it wrong — wrong IP rating for the zone, a finish that clashes with the fittings, or a shade that throws harsh light rather than a comfortable glow. Getting this right from the start saves costly rework.

In bathroom environments, IP rating is the starting point. IP44 means the fitting is protected against water splashing from any direction — suitable for zones where indirect splash is possible, but not for direct spray or immersion. Beyond waterproofing, the quality of light diffusion matters: a bare bulb creates glare and uneven light, while a well-chosen diffuser shade spreads illumination softly across a space, which is exactly what a bathroom needs.

The Elstead Malibu Bathroom Wall Light is IP44 rated and built around a cylindrical drum shade in opal-etched glass — a material chosen specifically to diffuse light evenly, eliminating harsh hotspots and delivering soft, ambient illumination suited to bathroom environments. The stepped frame detail and concentric oval backplate give the fitting a considered, transitional aesthetic that sits comfortably between classic and contemporary interiors. Elstead manufacture this in the United Kingdom, and the build quality reflects that heritage.

The Malibu's design centres on a geometric contrast between the cylindrical shade and the elongated oval backplate, unified by a series of stepped motifs that appear on both the shade support and the backplate. It is available in three finishes: Polished Chrome, Brushed Brass, and Polished Brass — the Polished Brass variant particularly highlights the stepped detailing. With only three finish options, the choice is straightforward and purposeful.

The Malibu Wall Light is IP44 rated, making it appropriate for bathroom zones where splash protection is required. Dimensions are H 216mm x W 129mm x P 160mm. The CRI (Colour Rendering Index — a measure of how accurately a light source renders colours, scored out of 100) is 80, which is adequate for general bathroom use. Lamp type is not integrated; check your preferred lamp compatibility before ordering. The fitting is supplied with a 2-year guarantee as standard. Confirm zone requirements and lamp specification with your lighting designer or installer before finalising placement.
