Elstead Cleveland Outdoor Pillar Lantern

Choosing an outdoor post light that holds its own against the elements and still looks considered ten years from now is harder than it sounds. Too many options sacrifice character for utility, or vice versa. The Cleveland gets the balance right — but it helps to understand what you actually need before specifying it.

For pathway and driveway lighting, the key decisions are weather resistance, light quality, and visual scale. IP44 means the fitting is protected against splashing water from any direction — suitable for exposed garden positions, though not submerged or jet-washed applications. The lamp type and bulb are chosen separately, so you have control over the warmth and output of the light itself.

The Elstead Cleveland Outdoor Pillar Lantern is a small post lantern built from aluminium and finished in weathered bronze — a deliberately aged, distressed patina that reads as antique without feeling theatrical. Clear seeded glass, with its characteristic small air bubbles, gives the enclosure a gently textured appearance and softens light diffusion without blocking it. The result is warm, atmospheric illumination that suits traditional architecture, mature gardens, and stone-laid driveways equally well.

The design draws on classical architectural references: a fluted column post, a tiered decorative finial at the crown, and a multi-sided pedestal base. The lantern head features a curved glass shade in the traditional lantern silhouette. The base includes pre-drilled mounting points for fixing to concrete or stone — a practical detail that simplifies installation on hard-landscaped surfaces.

The lantern houses a single E27 lamp socket (depicted with a vintage-style LED filament bulb, which suits the aesthetic well). IP44 weather protection is provided by the fully enclosed glass and metal lantern head. The base is designed for surface mounting to hard ground. Lamp and bulb are not included, giving you the flexibility to select the colour temperature and output that best suits your project.
