Elstead Chapel Outdoor Wall Lantern

Choosing an outdoor wall light that holds its own against the elements — and still looks intentional after five years — is harder than it sounds. Salt air, UV exposure, and pooling water around mounting points are all real risks, especially in coastal or semi-exposed settings. Get the protection rating or the material wrong, and you're replacing fittings far sooner than you should be.

For exterior wall lighting, the two things that matter most are weather resistance and long-term material integrity. IP44 means a fitting is protected against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splashing from any direction — suitable for covered or semi-exposed wall positions such as doorways, porches, and building facades. Die-cast aluminium is a strong choice here: it's rigid, corrosion-resistant, and holds a finish well over time, especially when backed by a proper anti-corrosion treatment.

The Elstead Chapel Outdoor Wall Lantern delivers on both counts. Made in England by Elstead Lighting, the Chapel range is built from die-cast aluminium with a matte black finish and carries a 10-year anti-corrosion warranty — a meaningful commitment for an exterior fitting. The hexagonal lantern body with clear glass panels and a tiered pyramidal cap draws on classic coach light architecture, softened by the Chapel range's clean, unfussy lines. Decorative arched cutouts at the top of each glass aperture reference traditional Gothic and chapel detailing without tipping into pastiche.

The design is wall-mounted, sitting flush against a vertical surface, and accepts a single vertically mounted lamp from the base socket. The tapered decorative base includes a small drainage point — a practical detail that prevents water ingress at the mounting point. The matte black finish works equally well on painted render, stone, and timber cladding.

This fitting is a lamped fixture — your lamp choice will determine the light output, colour temperature, and dimming behaviour. Ensure your chosen lamp is rated for enclosed fittings and compatible with any dimmer or smart control system you intend to use. For outdoor circuits, a weatherproof back box and appropriate cable entry are standard installation requirements.

At Lightsource Mallorca, we work with fittings like the Elstead Chapel precisely because they remove specification risk: a known manufacturer, a credible warranty, and a material and IP rating that suit the realities of exterior use in warm, sometimes coastal climates. If you need help matching lamp type, planning a run of exterior wall lights, or coordinating delivery around a project programme, we're here to make that straightforward.
