Elstead Carisbrooke Chandelier

Grand chandeliers often look breathtaking in a mood board and then raise questions at the specification stage — scale, suspension depth, lamp type, ceiling height. Getting those details right before ordering is what prevents costly surprises on site.

For a fitting of this character and scale, the key considerations are ceiling height and visual weight. The Carisbrooke's open wire structure gives it enormous presence without the mass of a solid-frame chandelier — meaning it reads as dramatic without dominating a room in the way a fully enclosed fitting might. It is rated IP20, which means it is suitable for dry interior spaces only — not bathrooms or areas exposed to moisture.

The Elstead Carisbrooke Chandelier is a multi-tiered candelabra-style Gothic fitting, handcrafted in England by Elstead Lighting. It carries 18 candle-style light sockets arranged across two tiers — an outer ring of 12 and an inner ring of 6 — each fitted with an ivory-coloured candle tube seated on a dark metal bobeche. The structure is built around hand-bound wire drapes that sweep in catenary curves from a central suspension cap, creating a piece that is as much sculptural object as light fitting.

The finish is a dark matte or semi-gloss metal — black or dark bronze in tone — which sets a sharp contrast against the ivory candle sleeves and the visible filaments of flame-shaped decorative bulbs. The open-frame, wire-draped construction creates a large volumetric presence while retaining visual transparency, making it well suited to foyers, dining halls, stairwells, and other high-ceilinged grand spaces.

The Carisbrooke is a lamped fitting, meaning it uses replaceable candelabra-style bulbs rather than integrated LED. Lamp type and whether bulbs are supplied should be confirmed at the point of order. As a ceiling-suspended chandelier, installation will require a suitable ceiling rose and chain or rod — confirm your ceiling height and required drop before specifying. No driver or transformer is required; this is a mains-voltage fitting for dry interior use (IP20).

At Lightsource Mallorca, we work with fittings like the Carisbrooke because they reward careful specification — the right ceiling height, the right suspension length, the right lamp to honour the filament aesthetic. We help you get those decisions made before the fitting arrives, so installation day is straightforward and the result matches the vision.
