Bathroom vanity lighting is one of the most commonly misspecified zones in a home. The wrong IP rating, poor light diffusion, or a fixture positioned badly can mean unflattering shadows, compliance issues, and a mirror that simply doesn't work as it should.

In UK and European bathroom standards, zones define where a fitting must be rated for moisture resistance. IP44 means the fixture is protected against solid particles over 1mm and water splashed from any direction — making it suitable for zones outside the immediate shower or bath enclosure, including above or beside a mirror. Getting this right at specification stage removes risk later.

The Elstead Bowtie Bathroom Wall Light is a two-light vanity fixture designed to sit confidently above a bathroom mirror, delivering symmetrical, downward-facing illumination from a pair of frosted glass shades. Manufactured in the UK by Elstead, the Bowtie carries an IP44 rating and is built from metal throughout — reliable credentials for a specification-led project.

The design is distinctly architectural: each lamp head pairs a frosted, downward-facing glass shade — shaped as a truncated square pyramid — with a mirrored metal counterpart above it, creating a pinched, bowtie silhouette that gives the range its name. The matte black finish and translucent white glass create a high-contrast, monochromatic look that suits contemporary and transitional interiors equally well. The frosted glass diffuses light evenly, reducing glare at the mirror face — exactly where you need clarity without harshness.

Please confirm lamp type, wiring configuration, and any dimming requirements with your lighting specifier before installation. As a bathroom wall light, this fixture should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with current wiring regulations.

FAQs

What does IP44 mean and where can I install this light in a bathroom?

IP44 means the fitting is protected against particles over 1mm and water splashed from any direction. This makes it suitable for bathroom zones outside the immediate shower or bath enclosure — including above or beside a mirror. Installation must comply with current wiring regulations and should be carried out by a qualified electrician.

Is this a good choice for above-mirror vanity lighting?

Yes. The Bowtie is specifically designed as a vanity fixture. Its two lamp heads are oriented downward to direct light onto the face and mirror area, and the horizontal, symmetrical layout spreads light evenly — avoiding the single-source shadows that make mirror use difficult.

Does the frosted glass reduce glare?

It does. The frosted glass shades diffuse the light source, producing a soft, even glow rather than a harsh point of light. This is particularly important in a mirror setting, where direct glare can be uncomfortable and counterproductive.

What is the warranty on this fitting?

The Elstead Bowtie carries a standard 2-year manufacturer's warranty.

Are lamps included with this fitting?

Lamp inclusion has not been confirmed for this product. Please contact Lightsource Mallorca to clarify lamp type and compatibility before ordering, to ensure you have everything needed for installation.
