Elstead Belfry Table Lamp

Choosing a table lamp that holds its own as a design object — not just a light source — is harder than it sounds. Too often, the base looks decorative in isolation but loses coherence once a shade is added. The Belfry avoids that entirely.

For a table lamp, the relationship between base, stem, and shade is everything. The stem is the visual bridge, and here it does real work: a handcrafted twisted-wire birdcage in an open spherical lattice that catches the eye before the light even switches on. Pair that with a formal empire-shaped shade and the result is a lamp with genuine transitional appeal — at home in a traditional interior but considered enough for a more curated contemporary space.

The Elstead Belfry Table Lamp is designed and manufactured by Elstead Lighting in England. The base is constructed from metal with a dark, textured matte black finish, rising through the sculptural birdcage stem to a tiered square-profile foot. The ivory fabric shade is knife-pleated — a technique that distributes light softly and evenly, producing a warm ambient glow rather than a harsh directional beam.

This is a handmade piece, and that shows in the detail. The twisted-wire cage work is the kind of artisanal finishing that photographs well and reads even better in person. The black and ivory palette is intentionally versatile, working across linen, stone, and darker interior schemes without fighting for attention.

As a portable table lamp, installation is straightforward — no cutting, no ceiling work, no driver to source separately. Lamp type and wattage should be confirmed to suit your dimmer or switch circuit; if you are planning to dim this lamp, get in touch and we will help you match the right lamp and dimmer combination to avoid compatibility issues.

At Lightsource Mallorca, we work with Elstead because their handmade English pieces are genuinely specification-worthy — not just decorative fillers. The Belfry is the kind of lamp that earns its place on a mood board and then actually arrives looking the part. We coordinate lead times and delivery to Mallorca so you are not chasing stock mid-project.
