Elstead Bayview Outdoor Ceiling Lantern

Choosing an exterior ceiling light for a porch or covered entryway involves more than aesthetics — get the IP rating wrong and you risk moisture ingress; get the style wrong and the lantern fights the architecture rather than complementing it. Neither is a great outcome.

For covered outdoor locations such as porch ceilings and sheltered entrances, IP44 is the minimum recommended rating. IP44 means the fitting is protected against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splashing from any direction — sufficient for areas shielded from direct rain but still exposed to humidity and occasional spray. It is not suitable for fully exposed, unprotected positions.

The Elstead Bayview Outdoor Ceiling Lantern is a flush-mount lantern designed for exactly these applications. Part of Elstead's Bayview range, it features a classical Georgian silhouette — a four-sided tapering lantern body with a tiered pagoda-style cap, ribbed corner metalwork, and architectural moulding detailing. The frame is constructed from aluminium with a matte black finish, and the four panels are fitted with clear bevelled glass, which refracts light to add visual depth and warmth to the illumination it casts.

The Bayview mounts via a flat circular canopy flush to the ceiling surface, hardwired into a standard junction box. The open-bottom design allows direct downward light casting and makes lamp changes straightforward. The fixture accepts a single standard-base bulb, giving you flexibility over the light source and colour temperature you choose — useful if you want to match the ambience of interior spaces visible through glazed doors.

As a lamped fitting, the Bayview requires no external driver — simply wire to mains and fit your preferred lamp. Elstead carries a 3-year general warranty on this product. For lamp recommendations or dimming compatibility, the Lightsource Mallorca team is happy to advise based on your specific installation.

At Lightsource Mallorca, we work with Elstead because their ranges consistently bridge design intent and specification reality — products that look right, install cleanly, and perform reliably over time. If you are specifying multiple exterior fittings across a project, we can help you align ratings, styles, and lamp choices so everything works together from day one.
