A-Emotional Light Kala Wall Washer

Ambient wall lighting often falls flat when the fixture itself competes with the effect it is trying to create. The Kala is designed to do the opposite — its layered mesh form is as much part of the atmosphere as the light it casts.

Wall washers work by directing light across a vertical surface rather than into the room, creating depth and warmth without glare. The most effective versions do this bidirectionally — pushing light upward and downward simultaneously — so the wall becomes the source of perceived illumination. The result is a softer, more enveloping ambience than a conventional wall light provides.

The A-Emotional Light Kala Wall Washer, designed by Arturo Álvarez, achieves this through a semi-cylindrical shade built from overlapping horizontal bands of hand-formed stainless steel mesh. Light escapes through the openings at the top and bottom of the fixture as well as between the tiered layers, producing a layered wash on the wall surface. The mesh diffuses the internal light source evenly, avoiding hotspots and lending the fixture a textile-like, almost sculptural quality.

The design draws its inspiration from the shifting horizontal lines of large sand dunes — an origin that feels entirely appropriate for Spanish interiors where natural form and material craft are recurring themes. The Kala is available in White, Beige, Grey, and Taupe, giving you the flexibility to align it with both neutral and warmer interior palettes.

The Kala is designed for hardwired wall installation, giving a clean, cord-free finish.
