The A-Emotional Light Hipatia Portable Table Lamp is the first cordless rechargeable LED lamp from Spanish studio a-emotional light, designed by Arturo Álvarez. Named after the fifth-century Greek philosopher and mathematician Hypatia of Alexandria, it is a tribute to intellectual rigour expressed in craft form. Its IP64 rating makes it suitable for outdoor use, and an integrated wire handle means it can be carried between spaces or hung as a lantern.

The form is a tapered cylinder — wider at the base, narrowing toward the top — wrapped in a densely ribbed mesh shade in off-white or cream. When lit, the vertical pleating creates a rhythmic play of light and shadow across the surface, producing a warm, patterned ambient glow. The top cap and base are finished in smooth light-grey metal, and a slim rectangular wire handle sits at the crown, referencing the quiet geometry of a traditional lantern translated into a contemporary, minimal language. The lamp is handmade in Spain from high-quality materials.

The Hipatia charges via an included cable connected to the base. No driver, transformer, or additional wiring is required — it operates as a self-contained, battery-powered unit. This makes installation as straightforward as placing it where you want it and keeping it charged. The integrated LED light source is housed within the mesh body; no lamp replacement is needed.
