The Stilnovo Oxygen Surface Downlight, designed by Pio e Tito Toso, delivers exactly this. Its PMMA (a high-clarity acrylic) diffuser ring uses OptiLight technology — laser micro-engravings that redirect photons from perimeter LED sources — to produce a downward task component and a soft upward aura that emphasises the ceiling plane. The open section between ring and base creates the impression the fitting is floating just clear of the ceiling surface. Rated IP20, it is suited to dry interior environments. The design earned a Red Dot Award in 2017.

The Oxygen is available in two sizes and four colourways: Yellow/White, White, Black/White, and Azure/White. Each combines a polyurethane ring shade in a bold or neutral tone with clean white upper and lower diffuser sections — a considered contrast that reads as architectural rather than decorative.
