Uplighting trees and tall garden features sounds simple until you realise that most ground-level fixtures are either too bulky to install neatly, lack the beam focus to reach height, or aren't rated for the water ingress that buried or surface-flush fittings inevitably face. Getting this wrong means a fitting that floods rather than focuses, or fails within a season.

For an uplight to perform at ground level, it needs three things working together: a tight, controlled beam angle to project light upwards without spill, a high IP rating — IP67 means fully dust-tight and protected against temporary submersion — and a lens system that maintains consistent light quality. CRI, or Colour Rendering Index, measures how accurately a light source reveals the true colours of what it illuminates; a CRI of 90 or above is considered excellent for landscape work.

The In-Lite Nero is a 12V recessed outdoor ground spotlight designed precisely for this application. Featuring a single-chip LED paired with a LEDiL® optical lens, it delivers a 25-degree focused beam capable of illuminating tall elements up to 8 metres. With a CRI of 93 and an IP67 rating, it performs reliably whether installed in gravel, grass, stone, or timber decking. The flat-ring, flush-mount housing keeps the profile virtually invisible at grade, eliminating trip hazards and blending into any surface material.

The Nero's design is architectural in intent — a matte black metal housing with a deeply recessed, conical interior that shields the lens from direct sightlines, reducing glare naturally without additional accessories. The integrated LEDiL® lens distributes the beam evenly and with precision. The EASY-LOCK system is included as standard, simplifying installation and ensuring a secure, weatherproof connection. A 60 cm cable is provided with the fixture.

The Nero operates on a 12V low-voltage system, which means a compatible transformer is required and is not included with the fixture. The light source is integrated and non-tiltable, so positioning during installation determines the direction of illumination — plan the aim point before fixing. With IP67 protection, this fitting is suitable for installation in all standard outdoor surface types, including areas subject to rain pooling or irrigation runoff.
