Choosing a pendant for an outdoor or semi-outdoor ceiling is rarely straightforward. Get the IP rating wrong and moisture becomes a problem; choose the wrong shade material and what looked beautiful in a showroom looks out of place beneath an open pergola or coastal terrace canopy.

For covered outdoor spaces — terraces, porradas, and pergolas — IP44 is the minimum protection level you need. IP44 means the fitting is shielded against water splashing from any direction, making it suitable for sheltered outdoor ceilings but not for fully exposed or rain-direct positions. The shade material matters too: not all natural-look woven materials are built to handle humidity and temperature swings the way all-weather rattan is.

At 76cm in diameter, this is a statement ceiling light — large enough to anchor a generous dining or seating area beneath a covered outdoor space. The shade is constructed from all-weather rattan woven into a repeating geometric knotted mesh, finished in a neutral palette of tan, beige, and grey-brown tones that complement both contemporary and traditional Mediterranean architecture. A central spherical white globe diffuser sits at the heart of the shade, softening direct light from the E27 source and casting ambient warmth through the open weave — creating atmospheric patterning on surrounding surfaces without harshness.

The design contrasts organic, tactile texture with clean, modern form: a shallow dome silhouette with a wide visual footprint, suspended from a slim black cord and compact matte black ceiling canopy. The metal frame, canopy, and hardware are all finished in matte black, grounding the natural rattan tones and working equally well against white render, natural stone, or timber ceiling structures.

The Arlen takes a standard E27 lamp (Edison screw, the most widely available base type). No integrated driver is required — simply fit your preferred E27 LED bulb to control colour temperature and output. IP44 protection applies to the fitting itself; confirm your chosen E27 lamp is also rated for damp or outdoor use. Dimming is possible if your chosen E27 LED is dimmable and paired with a compatible trailing-edge or LED-specific dimmer. Hinkley offer a warranty of 1–5 years depending on application and location.
