Choosing a statement pendant for a large open space is one of those decisions that looks simple on a mood board but gets complicated fast. Scale, light quality, shadow play, and suspension height all need to work together — get one wrong and the whole scheme suffers.

For wide horizontal spaces like dining tables or kitchen islands, an elongated pendant form distributes light more evenly than a single point source. The outer shade material matters too: a solid drum traps light, while an open or semi-open frame creates atmosphere through pattern and contrast — what lighting designers call a luminous texture effect.

The Elstead Silver Coral Oval Drum Pendant addresses this directly. Its wide elliptical drum features a complex laser-cut filigree outer frame — an intricate, organic mesh pattern reminiscent of cellular or coral structures — wrapped around an inner white translucent diffuser that softens the output and distributes light evenly across the space below. The result is both ambient illumination and a striking interplay of light and shadow on surrounding surfaces.

The fixture is finished in a brushed satin silver tone across all metal components, lending it a considered, design-forward character that suits contemporary and transitional interiors alike. The oval geometry gives it a more elongated silhouette than a standard circular drum, making it particularly well-suited to rectangular tables or island layouts.

Suspension is handled via a hybrid system: two central rigid vertical rods supported by four thin aircraft cables from a circular ceiling canopy, offering structural balance and adjustable hanging height. This combination of industrial precision and decorative craftsmanship is characteristic of Elstead's specification-grade approach. Lamp and driver details should be confirmed at point of specification to ensure dimming compatibility with your chosen control system.

At Lightsource Mallorca, we work with products like the Silver Coral because they do more than fill a space — they anchor a scheme. Our role is to make sure the right product reaches the right project on time, with all the technical detail you need to specify and install with confidence. If you need help confirming lamp type, suspension height, or dimming compatibility for your project, we are here to help before the order, not after.

FAQs

What shape is the Silver Coral pendant and why does that matter?

It is an oval drum shape — wider and more elongated than a standard circular pendant. This makes it better suited to rectangular surfaces like dining tables or kitchen islands, where a round pendant might leave the ends of the table under-lit.

Does the filigree outer frame mean the light will be very directional or harsh?

No. The laser-cut metal outer frame works alongside an inner white translucent diffuser, which softens and distributes the light before it reaches the room. You get the decorative shadow effect from the filigree without harsh hotspots.

How is the pendant suspended and can the height be adjusted?

The Silver Coral uses a hybrid suspension system — two central rigid rods plus four thin aircraft cables attached to a circular ceiling canopy. This provides structural stability and allows the hanging height to be set during installation.

What lamp type does the Silver Coral take and is it dimmable?

Lamp type and dimming compatibility should be confirmed at point of specification — please contact us before ordering so we can match the fitting to your existing control system and avoid any incompatibility on site.

What warranty does the Elstead Silver Coral carry?

Elstead offers a warranty of 2 to 20 years depending on the specific model. We can confirm the exact warranty term applicable to the Silver Coral pendant when you enquire.
