Client Description
After an extensive renovation and under new ownership, The Cuan re-opened in 2021. Their restaurant, bistro and bar menu feature a creative menu, specialising in Northern Irish seafood dishes.
The Project
Situated on the shores of Strangford Lough, this restaurant and bar also boasts 9 bedrooms. Lightsource Studio were asked by the Interior Designers, Garuda Design, to assist with architectural lighting and procurement of key decorative lights, along with specifying and commissioning of a smart lighting system in the bar and restaurant. The renovation had to run to a tight timescale to ensure that, when COVID restrictions were lifted, the bar and restaurant were ready to open.
The Lighting
Lutron was selected by Lightsource Studio as the smart lighting system to allow fully bespoke scene setting and integration of LEDs, decorative lighting and architectural lighting onto one system. Table lamps at the bar were wired through the base to allow them to be mounted onto the top of the bar, creating a cosy ambience. The large rooflight in the main restaurant was fully replaced during the renovation, and is now complete with two stunning chandeliers which give the room a grand feel. Due to the property’s proximity to Strangford Lough, special care had to be taken when selecting the outdoor wall lights. Lightsource Studio recommended the use of Roger Praider wall lights – known for their quality and longevity in coastal locations.
