The Project
The team at Lightsource Studio worked closely with Michael Nugent’s to deliver the full electrical and lighting specification and fit out of the PWC offices, situated in Merchant Square, Belfast’s most sought after office block, valued at £87m. The 225k square feet of office accommodation has been finished to CAT A standard.
The Lighting
The team at Lightsource Studio provided a comprehensive architectural and decorative lighting solution for Merchant Square. There are several features of the lighting scheme that stand out.
The first of which is the Linea Light tubes that change colour and give the impression of being structurally integrated to the building. These are bespoke products designed and supplied to meet the functionality and aesthetics the design team required. The simplicity of installation needed by Michael Nugent’s team meant a complete redesign of the original (Linea Light) concept to include a ‘through-wire’ solution for both the mains and the RGBW data supply to each luminaire. This resulted in upgrading the infrastructure from 24v to 48v and the introduction of an over sleeve to secure each luminaire in place.
A uniquely Northern Irish aspect of the lighting scheme is the Boya by Climar fittings which form a continuous profile that sweeps its way around the fifth floor, mimicking the route of the River Lagan. This is another bespoke product which includes RGBW distribution.
Other aspects of interest are the BuzziSpace pendants that help manage acoustics. Many other decorative luminaires from as far away as Canada helped add the finishing touches to this project.
In addition to the interior lighting, Lightsource Studio also provided a complete design and solution for the 9th floor terrace, which includes the Linea Light RGBW Rubber mounted on vertical window profiles along with the Dirigio Floor washing luminaire.
The final part of the project was for the Frontier. Lightsource Studio sourced a number of bespoke triangular luminaires to match the design concept initially put forward by the design team.
