The gap between drawings and reality

These are the things you discover during installation — when it's expensive to change direction.

Know what you're working with

A lighting survey puts experienced eyes on your space before design decisions are locked in. We visit, measure, photograph, assess, and report back with the information you need to make good decisions.
The result is fewer surprises during installation and a lighting scheme designed for the space as it actually is, not as the drawings suggest.

Survey types

  • New build or renovation

Assess the space during construction. Confirm design assumptions, identify issues early, coordinate with other trades before the ceiling goes in.

  • Existing space audit

Review current lighting to identify problems, inefficiencies, or upgrade opportunities.

  • Pre-design survey

Gather information needed to develop a lighting scheme when plans are incomplete, unreliable, or non-existent.

  • Compliance check

Verify existing installations against current regulations. Emergency lighting, workplace standards, accessibility requirements.

What we assess

  • Physical measurements

Ceiling heights, room dimensions, feature locations

  • Ceiling and structure

Types, materials, mounting options, and constraints

  • Existing lighting

Current fixtures, wiring provisions, control infrastructure

  • Natural light

Windows, skylights, and their impact throughout the day

  • Surface finishes

Materials that affect how light reflects and distributes

  • Architectural features

Elements requiring accent lighting or special treatment

  • Access considerations

How fixtures will be installed and maintained

  • Coordination points

Where lighting intersects with other trades

Who benefits from a survey

  • Designers & Architects

Needing accurate site information before finalising schemes

  • Property Owners

Considering lighting upgrades but unsure what's possible

  • Facilities Managers

Auditing existing installations for compliance or efficiency

  • Contractors

Preparing for complex installations and wanting to avoid surprises

  • Anyone

Where the drawings don't tell the full story

How it works

The result

A survey early in the project prevents surprises during installation. It reveals discrepancies between plans and reality, structural constraints nobody documented, and opportunities that only become apparent standing in the space.
Better information leads to better decisions, fewer changes mid-project, and installations that go smoothly.

Survey availability

Site visits are available for projects in Mallorca and surrounding areas. For projects elsewhere, we can often work from detailed photographs, video calls, and measurements provided by your on-site team.

Let's see your space

Tell us about your project and where it is. We'll discuss whether a survey makes sense and arrange a convenient time.

How much does a survey cost?

Survey pricing depends on location and complexity. For projects where we're providing full lighting design and supply, surveys are often included. We'll confirm costs when discussing your specific requirements.

How long does a survey take?

Typically 1-3 hours on site, depending on the size and complexity of the space. Report delivery follows within a few working days.

Can you survey a space that's still under construction?

Yes, and often that's the best time. Surveying during construction lets us identify issues while there's still time to address them easily.

What if my project isn't in Mallorca?

We can work remotely for many projects using photographs, video, and measurements provided by someone on site. For complex or high-value projects, we may travel further — just ask.
