IP44 means the fitting is protected against solid objects larger than 1mm and against water splashing from any direction. It is suitable for covered porches, semi-exposed entrances, and outdoor walls that are not subject to direct rainfall or submersion — but is not rated for fully exposed, unprotected positions in heavy rain.
