visual-comfort-frederick-52-pivoting-floor-lamp
Visual Comfort Frederick Pivoting Floor Lamp

Task lighting at floor level sounds simple until you realise a fixed floor lamp rarely lands light exactly where you need it. Reading chairs shift, room layouts evolve, and a lamp that cannot follow you quickly becomes a feature rather than a function.

Pivoting and adjustable floor lamps solve this by allowing the arm and shade to reposition without moving the entire lamp. The boom-arm format — a cantilevered arm extending from a central stem — delivers overhanging directional light ideal for reading, work, or accent illumination. The weighted base provides the counterbalance that makes this possible without the lamp tipping.

The Visual Comfort Frederick Pivoting Floor Lamp, designed by Suzanne Kasler as part of the Visual Comfort Signature Collection, answers precisely this brief. A slender vertical metal stem rises from a solid cylindrical weighted base, connecting to a horizontal pivoting arm via a circular joint mechanism. The arm terminates in a tapered, drum-shaped fabric shade in an off-white or cream tone, softening the directional light into something genuinely liveable. The 90-degree downward bend before the shade attachment keeps the light directed downward with control.

The design holds a minimalist industrial sensibility tempered by the warmth of the fabric shade — a combination that reads as modern yet considered, and sits comfortably in both contemporary and more traditional interiors. The Frederick is available in two finishes: Bronze and Hand-Rubbed Antique Brass, each with the hand-applied character that defines the Visual Comfort Signature Collection.

The Frederick carries an IP20 rating, meaning it is suitable for dry indoor locations only — not bathrooms or areas exposed to moisture. No lamp is included, so you will need to source a compatible bulb; check the shade fitter opening and wattage rating before purchasing. If you are planning a dimmable setup, confirm your chosen dimmer is compatible with the lamp type you select.

At Lightsource Mallorca, we work with design professionals and self-builders alike to take products like the Frederick from specification through to installation without the guesswork.
