elstead-shepherd-2lt-flush-mount-dark-weathered-zinc
Elstead Shepherd Outdoor Flush Lantern

Choosing an outdoor ceiling light for a porch, loggia, or covered entryway looks straightforward — until you consider weather exposure, IP rating, and whether the fitting will hold its finish through a Mallorcan summer. The wrong choice ends up chalky, cracked, or simply wrong for the space within a season.

For outdoor ceiling applications, IP rating is the starting point. IP44 means the fitting is protected against solid particles larger than 1mm and against water splashing from any direction — appropriate for covered exterior locations such as porches and recessed soffits, though not for fully exposed overhead positions. Equally important is the material: standard metal fittings corrode; composite alternatives are engineered specifically to resist UV, humidity, and temperature cycling.

The Elstead Shepherd Outdoor Flush Lantern answers both concerns directly. Part of Elstead's Shepherd range, it carries an IP44 rating and is constructed from a weather-resistant composite material — chosen for durability in demanding exterior environments. The result is a fitting that performs as well as it looks, backed by a 5-year warranty.

Visually, the Shepherd draws on traditional Parisian lantern design — the kind that references vintage gas lighting without replicating it literally. A low-profile rectangular box form with a tiered architectural frame sits in a matte black finish. Inside, a Case White glass shade is housed within outer panels of Clear Seeded glass, whose fine air-bubble texture catches and diffuses light in a way that plain glass simply cannot. The effect is warmth and atmosphere without harshness.

The flush-mount configuration makes the Shepherd well suited to spaces where overhead clearance is limited. Lamp type and driver requirements should be confirmed at point of specification — please contact us if you need clarity on compatible light sources before ordering.

At Lightsource Mallorca, we work with Elstead because their ranges are consistently well-engineered and straightforward to specify. The Shepherd is a considered choice for exterior ceiling positions where both durability and design intent matter — and where getting it right the first time saves a return visit and a replacement fitting.
