elstead-provence-1light-rise-fall-pendant
Elstead Provence Rise-and-Fall Pendant

One of the most common mistakes with pendant lighting over a dining table or kitchen island is getting the height wrong — too high and the light floods the room unevenly; too low and it becomes an obstacle. Most pendants give you one fixed drop, which means you commit to a height at install and live with it.

Rise-and-fall pendants solve this by using a mechanical pulley and counterweight system that lets you adjust the shade height by hand whenever you need to. The counterweight holds the shade in position — no tools, no rewiring. It is a practical mechanism that also happens to be visually striking when the hardware is designed well.

The Elstead Provence Rise-and-Fall Pendant does exactly that. Inspired by mid-20th-century French designs found in cafes, bistros, and home kitchens, it features a conical metal shade, a bulbous counterweight with horizontal ring detailing, and dark braided fabric cords running through a ceiling rose pulley. The result is a fixture where the working mechanism is the decorative statement. It accepts a single E27 lamp (Edison screw, the standard bayonet-style fitting used across Europe) up to 60W and is compatible with dimmable lamps, giving you control over atmosphere as well as height.

The Provence is available in Polished Nickel, Old Bronze, and Antique Brass — three finishes that suit very different interiors, from a clean contemporary kitchen to a warm, characterful dining space. The antique brass variant, in particular, leans into the vintage bistro reference with its aged, brushed tone.

The fitting is rated IP20, meaning it is designed for dry interior spaces only — not suitable for bathrooms or covered outdoor areas. Lamp is not included, which gives you the flexibility to choose a bulb that suits your preferred colour temperature and dimming setup. Ensure any dimmer switch you use is compatible with the specific dimmable E27 lamp you select. Elstead carries a 2-year general guarantee on this range.

At Lightsource Mallorca, we work with specification-led ranges precisely because the details matter: the right fitting in the right finish at the right drop height, delivered with confidence. The Provence is a strong, well-resolved choice for kitchen and dining pendant specification — and we can help you pair it with the right lamp and dimmer to make it work exactly as intended from day one.
