elstead-cotswold-lane-2light-medium-chain-lantern
Elstead Cotswold Lane Chain Lantern Pendant

Choosing a pendant lantern for an entrance hall, stairwell, or covered outdoor terrace means balancing character with practicality. Get the scale wrong, or overlook the IP rating, and what looked perfect on screen becomes a problem on site.

For pendant lanterns, a few things are worth checking before you commit: the IP rating tells you which environments the fitting is rated for (IP23 means it can handle dripping water at an angle, but it is not suitable for direct rain or fully exposed positions), and the lamp type affects both the look and the ease of replacement. Here, the visible candelabra-style bulbs are part of the aesthetic — so the choice of lamp matters more than usual.

The Elstead Cotswold Lane Chain Lantern Pendant is a chain-hung ceiling light from Elstead Lighting, a well-established British manufacturer with a long track record in decorative and traditional fittings. The Cotswold Lane collection draws on the formal language of antique gas lanterns, and the result is a fitting that holds its own in period properties, traditionally styled interiors, and covered external spaces rated to IP23.

The lantern has a tiered, bell-shaped top cap with ribbed architectural moulding detail at the head of each clear bevelled glass pane — a considered touch that lifts it above a generic lantern silhouette. A decorative pointed finial at the base and a solid black finish across the frame, chain, and mounting hardware complete the look. The clear glass panels keep the interior fully visible, so the choice of candelabra lamp becomes part of the overall effect.

The fitting houses two candelabra-style lamps on upright stems, which are not included and will need to be specified separately. The IP23 rating makes it suitable for covered external positions or interior spaces where incidental moisture may be present, but it should not be used in fully exposed outdoor locations. No driver is required — this is a direct mains lamped fitting.

At Lightsource Mallorca, we help you get the specification right before anything is ordered — lamp type, IP zone, scale relative to the space, and lead times all considered. The Cotswold Lane lantern is the kind of fitting that rewards careful specification: get those details right and it will look exactly as intended for years.
