elstead-bayview-1-light-wall-lantern-in-black
Elstead Bayview Outdoor Wall Lantern

Choosing an outdoor wall light for a principal entrance or terrace often comes down to two things: does it look right, and will it last? Getting the IP rating wrong — or picking a fitting that reads as cheap the moment the sun hits it — is a frustrating and costly mistake.

For exterior wall lighting, IP44 is the standard minimum for covered or semi-exposed positions. It means the fitting is protected against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splashing from any direction — so rain, sea spray, and coastal humidity are managed, though the fitting should not be fully exposed to driving weather without additional shelter. Lamp choice matters here too: the fitting accepts a single Edison-screw bulb, and a clear filament-style lamp will make the most of the open glass panels and internal visibility.

The Elstead Bayview Outdoor Wall Lantern is a traditionally styled exterior fitting from Elstead, one of the UK's most established specification lighting brands. It carries an IP44 rating, making it well suited to sheltered entrances, porches, and covered terraces. The clear glass panels maximise light output and allow the lamp itself to become part of the visual character of the fitting — particularly effective with a warm filament-style bulb.

The Bayview lantern has a four-sided, downward-tapering cage body with clear glass on all sides, topped with a tiered and slightly flared cap that follows a classic architectural silhouette. The defining feature is the ornate S-curve scroll arm — a reference to antique carriage lantern design — which connects the lantern to a rectangular wall plate with chamfered decorative edges. The result is a fitting that contrasts sharp geometric lines with fluid, sculptural hardware. It is available in Small, Medium, and Large to suit everything from a modest side gate to a grand main entrance.

The Bayview is a lamped fitting with a single internal light socket — lamp not included. Elstead recommends a compatible E27 or B22 bulb depending on the variant; confirm the base type for your chosen size before ordering. No driver is required for mains-voltage operation. The IP44 rating is suitable for Zone 3 exterior positions or sheltered Zone 2 applications; it is not rated for direct rain exposure or fully open locations without overhead cover. Mounting hardware is integrated into the wall plate design.

At Lightsource Mallorca, we work with Elstead precisely because their range bridges traditional design intent with dependable technical specification — no guesswork on IP, no compromises on build quality. Whether you're specifying a single entrance point or coordinating a full exterior scheme, we can help you match scale, lamp type, and placement to the result you're after, on time and without the usual back-and-forth.
